Your final blog post is a reflection on your internship experience. In thinking about what you did over the course of the past semester, include information about the following:
- There are a few important questions to consider coming out of an internship: is this a company would like to work for full time? are there positions in the company/field I would like to pursue? OR Having done this internship, I know this is a career/industry/position I would never want to have. Which one of these describes your situation? Be specific. (For example, I worked as a production assistant for 6 months and after running around getting coffee, sitting for hours on a set wait for one thing or another, I knew production was not for me.)
- What is the most important thing–good or bad–that you learned from this experience?
- Did you network as much as you could? Are they people you will be able to stay in touch with?
- Would you recommend this internship to other students at QC?
Feel free to add other information that might not be covered in these questions.
1. Sony Music Entertainment is definitely a company that I would want to work for full time in the future. This was my second “web” internship so I was more confident in my ability to complete the tasks assigned to me. I loved that I had the opportunity to work on different material each day whether it was coding, scheduling Facebook posts, constructing tweets, Photoshopping, etc. Working with digital teams within the music industry is definitely something I want to pursue after graduation. I am going to continue practicing HTML and CSS coding on my own website as I look for a job in this field.
ReplyDelete2. I was able to learn a lot during this internship. My supervisor was nice enough to meet with me each week to make sure I was getting something out of the experience as well as working on material I was interested in. Through my responsibilities I was able to familiarize myself with content management systems (CMS) such as Wordpress and Drupal (both of which I can now happily add on my resume) as well as marketing strategies like search engine optimization (SEO) and retargeting. Through my role I learned how to organize my priorities better. For example, social media almost always comes before content management since certain times have higher traffic. Since this is my last semester as an undergraduate student I think the most valuable thing that I have learned is that I actually enjoy this kind work to want to do it for a career.
3. I think that I networked as much as I could. My supervisor had introduced me to most of the people on the floor when I first began and throughout my internship I have been able to work with a handful of them. I was one of the only interns on my floor so during orientation I exchanged numbers with interns at the other labels. For my past two internships I have been using social media (mainly Twitter and Facebook) to keep in touch with people, but I think I may create a LinkedIn as well. Hopefully I get to work with some of these people again in the future.
4. I would definitely recommend this internship to anyone that is interested in working on content management, social media, and streaming. It’s a great learning experience to see how these platforms are utilized. Interns are really trusted and welcomed as a part of the family so I am absolutely grateful to have had this opportunity.

1) CINQUA productions was a good experience for me in terms of learning different styles of video editing as well as video shooting. Although there were parts that I truly enjoyed, working for this company full time is not something I would pursue. I've never been the type of person who likes to sit around in an office for 8 hours doing work that does not fulfill something in me. Now, in terms of working in production, that is still something I would like to pursue just in a different company that produces different projects that fit me and my goals. Such as, looking for companies that produce important documentaries, or companies looking for talented young writers.
ReplyDelete2) The most important thing I've learned is how to take clear direction. Everyone has their own way of explaining their vision, and it is up to us to really understand what they want and try to execute as best as possible. Also, putting aside what you think is right for the vision because at the end of the day, it is what the client wants whether you agree with it or not. Working with my boss was interesting because he had his own way on explaining on what he wants in terms of the edit. By the middle of my internship I learned to decipher what he meant, and that is something that will help me in the future.
3) Networking was not really an option in my internship. The only person I will stay in contact with is my boss. He has made it clear that whenever there are projects that need assisting he will most definitely let me know about them. He mentioned some folks out in California that will help me land a good position once I move out there later this year. But in terms of meeting different people, it was usually just me and my boss doing our projects together.
4) I would recommend this internship to someone who is truly in love with video editing, and enjoys the long hours of looking through archived footage. The experience on location shooting was fun, but I would warn them of the tedious moments that presented themselves. However, I am most definitely grateful for this opportunity.
